Hi fellow turtle/tortoise friends!

I've been a member of Live Journal for awhile, however I never browsed the groups before, this is new!

Anyway... I have 2 turtles. I have one eastern box turtle that I've had for almost 4 years now. I bought her along with a male, who unfortunately died during hibernation the first year I had them. (I suspect he wasn't at 100% health the entire time I had him and couldn't handle hibernation....).
Freya however, my female, goes down for hibernation every fall around October/November and comes back out around Easter. She's a tough cookie!

About a month ago, we were loading up some furniture we'd bought at a yardsale when a tortoise comes walking down the street. I picked her up and asked around if anybody knew whose tortoise it was, as it was obviously someone's pet. Nobody knew and seeing as I already have a turtle habitat, I brought her home and put her in with my box turtle. I named her Blueberry, she is a California desert tortoise, very young I suspect as she's not very big yet. (She's probably 3-4 years old...)
The two turtles get along really well, in fact my box turtle became alot more spunky once she had a friend in there.... and their climates aren't so different so they are pretty compatible as far as sharing a habitat is concerned.

My turtles live outside in the backyard. We built a big wooden crate (on wheels), filled it with dirt & some plants and of course lots of nice hiding places. It's about 7 feet around so there is plenty of room for them both to roam about and exercise. I'm planning on putting some grass seeds in there so some nice food can grow for my newcomer. Now that the habitat is 4 years old, it has its own eco system with bugs and plenty of food for my box turtle, although I feed her worms a couple of times a week as well.

Well ...... here's Blueberry out on the front lawn with my dog .... I like placing her out there so she can nibble on the grass once in awhile :)

I'd love to hear about your turtles, I'll browse this community later.

Take care all.
