Turtles in love

Hello!  Never posted before.  Just received another box turtle.  So now I have 2.  Both being outgrown by children and taken in by moi who can't say no to reptiles. So anyway, never having 2 and after doing some research on housing 2, it is determined that keeping 2 that are not both males should be fine. My first is female, the new one male. Still, I introduce them today armed with gloves and a stick in case things get tense. Well, they didn't fight. They hit it off.  Yep, you know where this is going...I had NO intention of learning about turtle love but I did today.  My question is, and I'm sure any response will come far too late, is how ling does one "date" last?  I had read up to 3 hours but they were still going at it like, um turltes, after 4 hours.  If I get to school tomorrow and they are still "dating" what do I do?  ALso, is this a one shot deal?  or will there be more terrapin passion throughout the summer?  Gotta decide if this couple will be rated G for the kiddies in my class or if I'll have to take them home!
ANy info would be greatly appreciated!

I've been a member of Live Journal for awhile, however I never browsed the groups before, this is new!

Anyway... I have 2 turtles. I have one eastern box turtle that I've had for almost 4 years now. I bought her along with a male, who unfortunately died during hibernation the first year I had them. (I suspect he wasn't at 100% health the entire time I had him and couldn't handle hibernation....).
Freya however, my female, goes down for hibernation every fall around October/November and comes back out around Easter. She's a tough cookie!

About a month ago, we were loading up some furniture we'd bought at a yardsale when a tortoise comes walking down the street. I picked her up and asked around if anybody knew whose tortoise it was, as it was obviously someone's pet. Nobody knew and seeing as I already have a turtle habitat, I brought her home and put her in with my box turtle. I named her Blueberry, she is a California desert tortoise, very young I suspect as she's not very big yet. (She's probably 3-4 years old...)
The two turtles get along really well, in fact my box turtle became alot more spunky once she had a friend in there.... and their climates aren't so different so they are pretty compatible as far as sharing a habitat is concerned.

My turtles live outside in the backyard. We built a big wooden crate (on wheels), filled it with dirt & some plants and of course lots of nice hiding places. It's about 7 feet around so there is plenty of room for them both to roam about and exercise. I'm planning on putting some grass seeds in there so some nice food can grow for my newcomer. Now that the habitat is 4 years old, it has its own eco system with bugs and plenty of food for my box turtle, although I feed her worms a couple of times a week as well.

Well ...... here's Blueberry out on the front lawn with my dog .... I like placing her out there so she can nibble on the grass once in awhile :)

I'd love to hear about your turtles, I'll browse this community later.

Take care all.

we've been having horrible thunderstorms all day, and while driving my mom found this young turtle that was trying to cross a busy road. i can't figure out what kind he his, though, but i though you guys might know. i want to set him free in the proper area if it's illegal for him to be captive in n.j.

thanks!

update: i released him out into a nice big wooded area near my house. i hope he grows into a nice big healthy turtle!

I still don't have a tortoise! :( I've found a great breeder here and everything but i just can't afford 299$ all at once! And i know that that's actually a decent price for tortoises! *sigh* I can afford the food, the care and the vet bills (my vet deals with payment plans) but not the asking price. So depressed. Does anyone know of a breeder or someone with tortoises in Canada that either is in Vancouver, Edmonton or is reliable and willing to ship who would charge less?

Hey, i'm new to the community and was wondering if i could get some advice. I've always been really interested in reptiles and amphibians and have wanted one since i was little but my mom was afraid of anything that wasn't furry, so they were never welcome in our home. I'm on my own now, although my place is pretty small, and have really been itching to get a new pet. I have a cat, who came with me when i moved and have had for years, so i do have some experience with the responsibility of pet care. I've narrowed it down to a turtle based on the fact that...

We got out of work early today on account that it's Good Friday (and I got paid the hours that I normally would have even though we got out early!). When we got home I decided to take Troy for a walk because it was starting to get a bit cloudy but the temperature was still warm, so I was looking forward to getting a walk in.

We got about 5 minutes away from the house when I spotted this little guy in the road:

I rushed home with him (it could be a her but I will call the turtle a him!) to show everyone because I had never seen a baby turtle up close and personal before. He had just hatched and was trying to get to the pond on the other side of the road. I was surprised he wasn't squished by passing cars (since he decided to stop and rest in the middle of the road)! I found two of his sibblings that had met that unfortunate fate.
