How many of us... Are participating in Nanowrimo? I know it's not possible for everyone with school and etc. but I do encourage it! everyone I know who joined it last year wrote a lot even if they did not meet the 50,000 word goal.
If there are several of us in it, maybe we can support each other via this list/LJ/ML?
Haha, so yes...I have been doodling on my breaks. :\ I am *this* close to finishing my user manual and I can start writing the stuff that counts! \ ^_^ / *arms up!*
I'm still not totally happy with thier character designs, but it's better than what I've produced so far!
Intermission - Vamp by Mistake (The principal cast are milling about Helena's dais. Todd has gotten his hands on a lighter and is flicking it on and off.)
"Crap. I'm so bored." Todd flicked the lighter again causing Helena, Percy and Allisdair to flinch intinctively. Therese shot him an irritated look.
"Would you put that thing away? You're making them nervous," she shot at him.
The vamps all exchanged looks of a nature that introduced the theory they may be telepathic then pounced on Todd en masse. Percy pinched his bottom while Allisdair held him down and Helena snatched the dangerous lighter.
"Ah-HAH! I have it!" She crowed triumphantly and flicked the little toggle. FWOOSH! She burnt to ashes in a heartbeat.
"Oh, nice going Todd," Percy sighed. "Now how am I supposed to get approval for your creation?"
Allisdair danced about singing, "Ding dong the witch is dead!"
Blah I promise to post my (hopefully)10K later tonight; my wrist hurt yesterday; it's a curse, ladies! And my dad took my internet connection thingy to use on a different comp. And my moniter pulses. Computers suck.
*fizzle* Only..this part is corny and by the way, any advice is welcome on this: There are four humans who possess the four Divine Virtues/Elements (Courage/Fire, Honor/Earth, Truth/Air, Wisdom/Water), whom have been referred to, by me, as The Pillars of --insert virtue/element--. I don't think I want to call them Pillars any more! *pout* How does Avatar sound?
An avatar, according to m-w.com, is: 2 a : an incarnation in human form b : an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) often in a person 3 : a variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity
The four are basically living virtue, each upholds and is an almost ideal representation (or strives to be, anyway) of his/her respective virtue. Each possesses the powers of his/her respective element, and is able to manipulate that element as it is present in the world around them. For instance, the Earth/Honor person can converse with and understand animals, and if he/she has had proper training, can transform into an animal.
As of noon.. Ok, so I've been writing a bunch and haven't typed it up yet, but I will (and my new moniter came this morning --still in box, but yay warranty!), and at a rough count as of now I'm up to 6300 words. Woot! Wooooooot!
*happy dance*
This is basically because work is excessively slow and boring today, that I can write.
attn, Akiko! Hey, I don't know if it's possible since you're not at home, but is there any chance you could email me STS 4 & 5 tonight? I am planning to do a big beta read session and if I have those two in a nice printable format I could try and get to them too.
Ok, so! Folks, I just want you to know I'm making progress, and will get around to typing it up before August uno, though since I haven't typed the recend ballyhoo up because my moniter is a dildo and has gone all fuzzy in places, I have no idea what my word count is, but I think I figured out where I want this piece to go so I can make it go there. Righto. That is the scoop. And then I get read all your stuff, wheee, some of which I have peeked at. (Janette, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.) My other typing problem is that I've been entering course descriptions onto the comp at work, which = typing all day on nonergonomically placed keyboard. Raarrgh! But like I said I figured stuff out (last night, in fact) so hope to get on it like, now or very close to now.
Um. I saw a preview and movie poster for LotR2 Friday and that made me very happy. :)
10,172 Words Woohoo! Not only did I reach my goal, I've finished the chapter. Now I only have one more to go and I'm DONE with Epiphania and will prove I can actually finish something.
That was my big goal.
I'll post it for ya'll tomorrow night. It's now 2:15AM and I have to get up in 5 hours to go to Pennsylvania.
Half way there! Huzzah! As of eleven tonight, I'm up to 5023 words of new material! *does the happy dance* And ooooh, things are getting interesting! Percy and Todd and Therese and a new character named Allisdair are now before Percy's Demwe, Helena, to talk about Todd's illegal making. How exciting!
I hope to reach the ten thousand mark by the end of next weekend! *arms up*
Word Goal, Nearly There I'm at 8,995 words now. I got my second wind. I'm happy. I'm up to a hard part but I should make the 10K before the deadline. *breathes sigh of relief* I had to hit bottom with Ep 4 before realizing where it went wrong.
Congrats Tammy! I'm so glad that you're writing more of Vampire by Mistake!
It's really cool that we can cheer each other on, and support each other as writers. We can vent here if we feel something we write sucks, or if the inspiration fairy isn't sprinkling the magic inspiration dust on us, and we can critique each other's stuff.
Yeah, it sounds mushy, but I'm glad to be with y'all.
Hrm How many characters is too many to introduce in a limited number of pages? Because, in MY head, Linnaleia and Lenkin can walk into the inn at the very beginning of CoS, and meet Linnaleia's 4 siblings, Lenkin's brother Aril, and Aril's wife Silene, pretty much one after another.
I think one of the greatest challenges to any writer is overcoming themself. I can't tell you the countless times that I and writers I know (and artists too!) have been frozen by their own demand for a quality product. There is nothing wrong with this, nothing at all, until it starts choking you up.
Wanderword's word-count goal isn't to make you feel like you have to write that perfect 10,000 word novella by August first. Far from it. I think we all agreed what is to be turned in by August first is stuff *for critique*. Now, I know even on "critique MLs" the tendency here is to have something pre-beta read, pre-refined. Show off material. But at least in my opinion, that's not what we're after. This was the problem with the APA too: this is about improving, not exhibiting. Performance anxiety seems to be the greatest cause of procrastination and missing of deadlines.
So chant with me now: Quantity, not quality
Come on, how many of you can honestly say you didn't ever churn out a 20-page essay on {insert tedious subject here} in a desperate all-nighter, powered by mountain dew, hershey's kisses and throwing up that combination in the computer lab girl's bathroom?
Okay, perhaps not that experience precisely. But I know you've *at least* done a 10-page paper in an all nighter

Okay, perhaps not that experience precisely. But I know you've *at least* done a 10-page paper in an all nighter <:). 10,000 words *sounds* intimidating, but it's only 20 pages at Times New Roman 10. That's two all-nighters, up with the mountain dew. Most of you are already 1/4 or 1/2 of the way through. So you just gotta spew, man. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. You may end up later hacking it down to 5000 words or rewriting the whole thing.
The key is: get over yourself and get to it! Don't become a victim of performance anxiety today! You've got slightly under three weeks to do it. You can't tell me that you can't do it. You can, you've just gotta stop telling yourself you can't. Sit down one weekend and write *garbage* if you have to. You'll find that at least *some* of that garbage is keeper stuff. Or even if you don't, you'll at least know where you don't *want* to go.
Sometimes You Just Gotta Say... What the fuck. Of course, that quote is from Risky Business, but I've decided that I'm gonna have to do that in order to save Epiphania 4.
I have taken out a good deal of the lemon that happened at the end of what I posted, and I may have to rewrite an earlier part to the chapter because I've found a way out of my hole. I didn't take out all of the lemon but I realized I need a better vehicle to do what I need and Alekos just changed a little too fast, and while I can attribute some of it to jealousy, I can't to all of it.
Therefore, I will lose about 200 words for now but hopefully I will be able to save this before I take the chapter and this story and put a stake through it.
akiko congrats on being able to find your rhythm and your muse. luckykitty I'm glad you will reach your goal as well.
I will try damned hardest to make it. If I can't, it won't be because I didn't try hard enough, but maybe because I tried too hard. ^_^;;
