Nick at Nite
So Designing Women resurfaced either this week or last on Nick at Nite here in the U.S. I can't remember for sure, but I think it comes on at like 10pm eastern, and midnight central? Can someone confirm that? Wonder how the ratings are going. Current Mood: hopeful | | Monday, February 13th, 2006 | 8:36 am [lacey]

Nick at Nite?
I was browsing the Designing Women Wikipedia page, and I came upon this: Designing Women has been rerun continuously on the Lifetime cable network for over a decade and will be leaving in 2006 for Nick at Nite. The ratings were so strong that finally in 2003 Lifetime reunited Burke, Potts, Smart, Carter and Taylor for a reunion special, which also featured interviews with the Thomasens and various writers. Designing Women and Nick at Nite? Doesn't that sound weird to anyone else? This worries me... Designing Women has been on Lifetime for years, and i'm afraid that if they move it to Nick at Nite, the audiences will drop, and it might be taken offair altogether. So, I have a poll:
Do you think Nick at Nite is the appropriate network for Designing Women to air?
Do you think Lifetime or Nick at Nite is a better place for Designing Women to air?
Will you watch Designing Women on Nick at Nite?
Don't know... haven't thought about it
0(0.0%)
I don't get Nick at Nite
0(0.0%)
Do you think the audience will change?
Yes- I think the move will increase viewers
4(26.7%)
Yes- I think the move will decrease viewers
4(26.7%)
No, I think it'll stay the same
1(6.7%)
I don't know yet
6(40.0%)
Something I miss? How do you feel about this?
EDIT: Designing Women is slotted to begin airing on Nick at Nite in October, 2006. Enjoy it while you can, all. I don't think it will last all that long once it leaves Lifetime. Current Mood: surprised | | Thursday, February 2nd, 2006 | 8:34 am [vampiretea]

YAY!
My absolute favorite Designing Women episode (besides the one about Carlene's Apartment) is on now... "Julia and Mary Jo Get Stuck Under a Bed"! Dixie Carter and Annie Potts act this one just perfectly. I just love this episode. One funny quote from this episode: Carlene, talking about Thighmasters: "I went to the Laundromat, and I was doing it, waiting for my clothes to dry; and they asked me to leave." I may update this post as the episode goes on to put in more quotes, as this episode is just chock full of 'em! EDIT: "Oh, CHUCK!" (Repeated throughout.) Mary Jo: "Wait: Jellies of the World." " Julia: When they come through the door, let's hit 'em in the head and knock 'em out! Mary Jo: What are we gonna' hit 'em with? Julia: Jellies of the World!" *Tap Tap*
Everyone, yesterday afternoon I became a maintainer of womenofatlanta. Hold the applause ;) Anyway, the reason I bring it up is that this community is slightly dead, and I know there's gotta' be some things we can do to perk the community up, and make it more ours. So here's what I was thinking:
- Icons. I'm thinking we need icons. This may be a problem though because a group can only have 6 icons without purchasing additional icon space. We'd want ones of the 4 girls certainly, and Anthony, but what about Allison, Carlene, and B.J? I was kinda' hoping we could include Bernice too, but I guess not. Maye we can make some custom ones, or switch 'em out every so often?
- A Designing Women layout. This would be awesome, but i'll be honest, I have no idea how to do one.
- Maybe links to our community to put in an AIM or LJ profile? Like a picture of the cast, some text, and when you click it it links here? I don't know how to do this either, though :(
- Other miscellaneous things.
We can spice up this community real well if we wanted, but I need input/feedback from you all. What say you? | | Friday, January 6th, 2006 | 8:06 am [lacey]

The Big Circle
I'm watching the "The Big Circle" episode, where Julia is coping with Reese's death, and it looked like they had some different shots of the women in the opening sequence. Anyone else notice this, or is this more commonplace than I realized? Current Mood: curious | | Friday, August 5th, 2005 | 9:47 am [sobetina69]

DOes anyone have a clue on what I'm talking about? | | Friday, April 29th, 2005 | 12:15 pm [jagmartini]

Hi from the Southern Newbie
I'm a huge Designing Women fan. This show should definitely be on DVD. My fave character is Mary Jo, particularly in the beginning, because she acted a lot like I am. I am also a girl from the Deep South and have relatives in Atlanta. Meggars | | Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 | 12:13 am [lacey]

Hi!
I'm Lacey, and Designing Women is one of my favorite shows. I've been watching for years, but haven't watched regularly for years... it's on too early :(. I have 2 favorite episodes... the one where Carlene gets a new apartment, and the one where Julia and Mary Jo get stuck under that newsman's bad... 'Jellies of the World!' I hope to see this community join... maybe if we all join together, we can petition Lifetime TV hard enough that they will show episodes at times we can actually watch them! Fans of the world, UNITE! Hi there, I've been a member for a while but this is my first post and I just wanted to say hi. I first stumbled upon the show when I was 16, and have been hooked ever since. I just can't seem to get around a cable television when it's on so early in the morning! Though it sounds cheesy, (for some strange reason I don't think anyone on this board will fault me for my silly tastes!) I think my favorite episode is the one where Charlene is visited by her guardian celebrity, Dolly Parton. | | Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 | 12:25 am [lakshmi_durga]

so yeah, designing women is the love of my life. well, next to SVU. my favorite character is julia sugarbaker, of course. i also seem to be the only person on the planet who is perpetually impressed by julia duffy (allison)! i heart allison! she makes OPD adorable and slightly less obnoxious! it was at least fun to see the character become the butt of all of mary jo's jokes. woot woot. anyone else feeling the julia duffy love? no? pfft. I'm new. I've loved 'Designing Women' for as long as I can remember. I use to skip school on a lot of mornings just to watch it - and it was worth it, LOL! My favorite character has to be Bernice. I loved the epsidoe when Charlene was having her baby at the end of the year, and she ended up calling 911 for a ride to the hospital!! Those were the good old times. :) | | Thursday, November 25th, 2004 | 9:45 pm [nicksillume]

Here's my introduction. I'm Erica and have always had a love for Designing Women. My favourite has always been Julia. I'll share a couple of my favourite quotes from the show. Happy Thanksgiving!
Julia: Suzanne, if sex were fast food, there'd be an arch over your bed!
Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.
Allison: Oh, Julia, just so you know, the next time you see your lawyer on company time, it's going on your record. Julia: Just so YOU know... The next time you speak to me in that tone of voice, you're going to the moon. Current Mood: amused | | Saturday, October 23rd, 2004 | 2:20 am [piperbm102927]

HI!
HI EVERY1..i lvoe designing women. The ladies gather around Mary Jo's television to watch Julia's one-minute speech on the news against Commissioner Brickett. SUZANNE: I know someone who's not going to think Julia's too wonderful. CHARLENE: Who? SUZANNE: Wilson Pickett. CHARLENE: Wilson Pickett? SUZANNE: You know, that black guy with the bow tie. Where have you been, Charlene? I mean that's what we're doing here. CHARLENE: Suzanne, his name is not Wilson Pickett, it's Wilson Brickett. Wilson Pickett's a black singer. SUZANNE: Okay, so I was close. CHARLENE: How do you figure you were close, because they're both black? You might as well have said Don King. SUZANNE: Who's Don King? CHARLENE: Who's Don King?! You don't know who he is either? SUZANNE: Oh yeah, I know who he is. He's that guy who sings "Tiny Bubbles." CHARLENE: "Tiny Bubbles"?! Suzanne, Don King does not sing "Tiny Bubbles," that's Don Ho! (to Julia) She just does this to drive me insane. It's like we're the Smuthers brothers, and she's Tommy and I'm Dick. MARY JO: (walks in with a tray) What is the matter? SUZANNE: Oh, I don't know, Mary Jo, it's just Charlene. She's in here raving about "Tiny Bubbles" and calling herself Dick. **** The war between Allison and Anthony over Suzanne's house continues: ANTHONY: Just so you know, Allison. I did not appreciate waking up this morning and finding my wardrobe on the front lawn. ALLISON: I did not appreciate the "Die Fascist Pig" note in my pajamas pocket either. ANTHONY: I didn't put any note in your pajamas. ALLISON: Oh....... I guess it was somebody else. **** CARLENE: That Suzanne Sommers says you can do it anywhere, right? So I did. I went to the laundramat and I was doing it, you know, and I was waiting for my clothes to dry........and they asked me to leave *** REGGIE MAC: I've gotta go to Mr. Fladbeau's office and ask if I can take my break now. JULIA: Can't you just take it? REGGIE MAC: Well, I only get one a week. SUZANNE: Don't worry about Mr. Fladbeau, I'll take care of that. You're not leaving this room. (Suzanne grags the microphone on the piano) Mr. Fladbeau! This is Suzanne Sugarbaker! Reggie Mac is taking his break now, thank you!! ***** SUZANNE: Oh, oh!! I've got one..........this just makes me furious!! Y'know.......when men......use Women's Liberation as an excuse not to kill bugs for you........oh, I just hate that!!! I don't care what anybody says, I think the man should have to kill the bug!! JULIA: I don't think I can add anything to that.......... | | Monday, August 16th, 2004 | 9:38 pm [alexandra13win]

Hey, I'm fairly new. I just wanted to find out who else found it a travisity that now they only show Designing Women once a day at 8(:30?)amET. That's early. I'm either at school or asleep, and, while perfect in every way, I wouldn't drag my ass outa bed at 8 am for anything, let alone Designing Women. Ooh! also, i'm like, so effen closely connected to Delta Burke it's not even funny. My dad used to be good friends w/Gerald Macranie (sp?), delta's hubby, b4 he married her. Which sux cuz i'm so close and yet so far from my fav actress on that show. All my friends even call me Delta because of my love for the show.
