WordPress.com sends notifications for comments, likes, new subscribers, and other site activity. In this guide, you will learn how to view notifications and manage your notification settings.
Checking your notifications regularly helps you stay connected with your site’s activity and respond to comments quickly. To view your notifications, follow these steps:
- Go to your site’s dashboard.
- Click the bell icon in the top-right corner.

- Toggle between All, Unread, Comments, Subscribers, and Likes, to see different notifications.
- Click a notification to see more details about the notification, and mark it as read.

You can also receive notifications to the email address on your WordPress.com account, and in your browser.
Use keyboard shortcuts to navigate and manage notifications more efficiently.
n : Open/Close the notifications menu (make sure you aren’t currently typing in a text box first).
j / k or ↓ / ↑: Navigate through your notifications.
← / → : Show details or go back to list of notifications.
a : Select “All” filter.
u : Select “Unread” filter.
c : Select “Comments” filter.
f : Select “Follows” filter.
l : Select “Likes” filter.
With a comment selected, commit an action with these keyboard shortcuts:
r : Start replying to a comment notification.
a : Approve/Unapprove a comment.
l : Like/Unlike a comment.
s : Mark comment as spam ( u : undo).
t : Trash a comment ( u : undo).
Customizing your notification settings helps you stay informed about important site activity without being overwhelmed by unnecessary alerts.
To access your notification settings, follow these steps:
- Hover over your name at the top right corner of any screen while logged into WordPress.com.
- Select the “My WordPress.com account” button:

- On the side, select the Notifications menu option:

- Choose from four options to adjust or stop receiving specific notifications:
- Sites
- Comments
- Emails
- Extras
Each option is described in the following sections.
Get notified of activity on your sites, such as likes, comments, new subscribers, writing prompts, posts publicized, draft post reminders, and more.
To adjust the notifications you get for your site, follow these steps:
- From the Notification settings, click the Sites option.
- Enable or disable setting for browser notifications to get instant notifications for new comments and likes in your browser.
- Click the name of the site you want to manage notifications for.
- Choose from three tabs:
- Web: Notifications delivered to the bell icon in your WordPress.com account.
- Email: Notifications sent to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account.
- Devices: Notifications sent to your mobile or tablet via the Jetpack app.
- Toggle the notifications you want to turn on or off, as shown below. Your choices will be saved automatically.

Optionally, click the “Apply to all sites” button to save the same notification settings for all of your sites in one step.
Get notified of likes and replies to comments you have made on other websites and blogs.
To customize which notifications you receive, follow these steps:
- From the Notification settings, click the Comments option.
- Check, or uncheck, the notifications you want to modify for:
- Web: Notifications delivered to the bell icon in your WordPress.com account.
- Email: Notifications sent to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account.
- Devices: Notifications sent to your mobile or tablet via the Jetpack app.
Your choices will be saved automatically.

Adjust the emails you receive for sites you have subscribed to in the Reader.
To adjust your subscription emails, follow these steps:
- From the Notification settings, click the Emails option.
- Check the box for “Pause all emails” to stop all email updates from sites and blogs you’re subscribed to on WordPress.com.
- If emails are not paused, you can adjust the following settings:
- Default email delivery: Choose to receive email instantly when a new post is published, a daily or weekly digest, or to never send email.
- Email delivery format: Receive emails in Visual (default) or in plain text.
- Email delivery window: If you have set “Default email delivery” to weekly, choose which day of the week you wish to receive the digest emails. If you have set “Default email delivery” to daily, select the time of day as well.
- Jabber subscription delivery: If you have set up a Jabber account, you can get new posts instantly pushed to you via instant messenger (IM) by checking the box next to “Default delivery via Jabber instant message”.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen to save changes to your notification settings.
The Extras option in notification settings lets you control which optional email newsletters and notifications you receive from WordPress.com, including emails about AI features.
To customize your optional emails, follow these steps:
- From the Notification Settings, click the Emails option.
- Use the toggle next to each option to turn it on or off.
- Your changes save automatically.
If you want to stop receiving emails about a specific topic, turn off the toggle for that type. The following email types are available in Updates:
- On this day: Receive reminders of posts you published on that day in previous years.
- Achievements: Receive notifications when you unlock new achievements for actions taken on WordPress.com.
- Suggestions: Tips for getting the most out of WordPress.com.
- Research: Opportunities to participate in WordPress.com research and surveys.
- Community: Information about WordPress.com courses and events (online and in-person).
- Promotions: Sales and promotions for WordPress.com products and services.
- Newsletter: WordPress.com news, announcements, and product spotlights.
- Digests: Popular content from the blogs you follow.
- Reports: Reports about your site’s performance and traffic.
- Developer Newsletter: A monthly roundup of notable news for WordPress developers.
- AI Tips: AI insights, tips, and new feature highlights.
- Scheduled updates: Reports about scheduled plugin updates.
WordPress.com will still send important emails about your account, security, privacy, and purchases even if you turn off other notifications.
If you’re not receiving notification emails, follow these steps:
- Make sure you are checking the correct email address registered with your WordPress.com account.
- Check the site’s Discussion Settings to make sure email notifications are activated.
- Check the Notification Settings to make sure you haven’t blocked all emails from WordPress.com.
- Check the spam folder in your email program to make sure the messages were not sent there by mistake.
