These are review of movies I've recently watched: 1 Star = poor 2 Stars = Fair 3 Stars = Good 4 Stars = Excellent
1) The Rookie = 3 1/2 Stars....Not one of the best sports movies ever made but definitely better than most of them. Dennis Quaid was great in this story. Great story, even better because it was based on a true story. I remember the story before it even came out since I am a sports person. Not as good as Rudy, but pretty good nonetheless
2) Collateral Damage = 2 1/2 Stars.....I didn't think this would be that good, but I was mildly surprised.......it was solid entertainment from Arnold. Not a lot of explosions, but it was somewhat exciting as some points. He can do better....well he has....I don't know if he can do better anymore since he's getting up there in age....but then again he has Terminator 3 coming out next summer....so we'll see
3) The Panic Room = 3 1/2 Stars.....It was darkly filmed, which fit the mood right and I think Jodie Foster did better than Nicole Kidman would have (She was originally slated for the role) and it was good from start to finish.....one of the better movies that came out this year....Forrest Whitiaker was good
4) Scooby Doo = 2 Stars.....I would give it one stars if it weren't for Scooby Doo and the pretty dead on impersination of Shaggy by Matthew Lillard. The plot was pretty ridiculous, but probably any kid would like this movie. Hopefully on the next one, they will do better. Oh, get rid of Freddie Prinze and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
5) The Brotherhood of the Wolf = 3 Stars....I would have given it 3 and a half maybe if it weren't so long. It is in French, so it has English subtitles...but that wasn't a problem really. It was a good movie with good action and a good story set in the 1800's in Europe. I enjoyed it and I think I will buy it on DVD eventually.....
6) The Big Lebowski = 1 1/2 stars....I expected much more from this film. It seems a lot of movies Jeff Bridges is in, just aren't that good. But this time it wasn't his fault really. He was okay in it. I mean, he was the central character in this movie. The story I understood, just the whole thing was just kind of boring. It wasn't funny and I thought there would be more John Turturro, but there wasn't. I was disappointed with this one
7) E.T. = 4 stars....it's very hard for me to give 4 stars to a movie. However, if I were to give out 4 stars....I would have no problem giving it to E.T. It is definitely still a magical and fun back 20 years ago as it is today. I haven't watched it in years until a few days ago and I enjoyed it more than I remembered I did. It was a great film and definitely a classic and one of my childhood and even today favorites
8) Mystery Science Theatre 3000 = 1 Star.....I don't know why I watched this. Probably because I used to watch the old tv show from time to time and I thought it was funny somewhat. Not Chris Rock funny, just amusing. It was just like a tv show, but shot on better film. However, I only chuckled a few times and most of the jokes just fell flat. Plus I liked the original host better, not the one they used for the movie
9) Blade II = 3 stars.....I was suprised how much better this was than the first movie, considering the first was not bad to begin with. First off....the action was great! Much better than the first and the story was just as good. I think Wesley Snipes has to be much more happy with this one than the first. Great Action Movie...one of my favorite action movies of all-time
10) The Lord of the Rings = 4 Stars.....One of my favorite movies of all time. It doesn't matter that it is long.....you don't even realize how long it is, it is so good. The cinematography is breathetaking and the story is great. Well acted, great looking...just a wonderful movie. I don't know what more to say. Ian McKellan is great as well as Elijah Wood. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
11) The Ladies Man = 2 stars......I mean.....as far a comedies go, you could do worse. It wasn't that funny, but it did get a few laughs. It was good to see Tim Meadows get his own movie though. It's better than most Saturday Night live movies, but then again....that's not saying much. It was just okay I guess
12) Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones....2 1/2 stars....Much better than Episode I. I do like the Star Wars franchise, so I was relieved when this one was better than the first, which besides from Darth Maul, wasn't that great. Ewen McGregor is great in it. However, Anakin was annoying, but the action was first rate! The Last 45 minutes of the movie were the best..but Yoda stole the show at the end. I can't wait till Episode III comes out, but I'll have to wait 3 years for that
13) Bond: Die Another Day = 2 1/2 stars....as far as Bond Films go, I don't know too much about them. I've only seen 2 besides this one. I have to say, it was better than I expected. Halle Berry, was good to look at, and the techinal affects and action were big. The Villan for Bond was weak though. Pierce Bronsan is a solid Bond though. I think he has one more Bond Film in him, and then he will pass the torch. Not a bad movie, although, not one of the year's best
14) Harry Potter & The Sorceror's Stone = 3 1/2 stars.....I have to admist before the movie came out I never really heard of Harry Potter. I didn't know what all the big deal was about. When the movie came out in the theatre's I didn't see it. I kept hearing it was good, but I never saw it till I rented it one day over the summer. Since then I've seen it about 6 times. It's on HBO lately all the time. It is a magical movie. I very much enjoyed it. One of my favorite kids movies of all time. It was beautifully done and the cast was all very well picked out.
15) Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets = 3 stars.....I saw this in the theatre's recently and the younger cast has definitely grown up a little, while Professor Dumbledore (Richard Harris), has passed away in real life. He was one of my favorite actors. It's a shame. This one was good, however, not as good as the first. It was rather long, but that didn't matter really. There was more action, and the best parts were when Harry conflicted with Draco. I liked the first one more though. The next installment will be without Christopher Columbus though, the director. I wonder how it will turn out. Also, who will play Dumbledore? Hmmmm
16) The Ring = 2 stars.....Everyone said this was really good. Based on their procalmations, I decided to go see it. I was somewhat disappointed. I have to admit, it was better than your typical scary movie these days...but still...it wasn't that great. The Story was interesting, but it just wasn't that scary. I mean, I didn't jump or scream or whatever. Maybe I didn't get it. I think "Signs" was scarier in a more suspenseful type way. I love M. Night Shamalyan. I hear he's going to write the script for the new Indiana Jones movie...that should be interesting and great!
17) The Scorpion King = 2 stars....I don't know what to say. It was the Rock's acting debut, but to tell you the truth...he didn't do much acting. He didn't have a lot of lines in my opinion. The action was fun, the story was your typical gotta save the people from the evil king deal. Nothing special really, but an okay action flick.
18) American Pie 2 = 2 1/2 stars....I don't think it was better than the first, but it was still not bad. Stiffler was back, which was good and Jim was good I guess, but the rest of the supporting staff (besides Allison Hannigan) was kind of useless. Just a bunch of little side stories than just were there. It had it's funny moments, and enjoyed it as a whole, as well as Shannon Elizabeth, but it was just.....just not as good as the first. The third one is coming out...and most of the cast won't be back, which I think is a good thing
19) Pulp Fiction = 4 stars....One of my favorite movies of all-time. Probably Quentin Tarantino's only good movie (Besides Reservior Dogs). It relaunched the careers of John Travolta and launched the career or Samuel L. Jackson. It is a bunch of insistences tied together in an exciting interesting movie. I love it!
20) A Christmas Story = 3 1/2 stars.....One of if not my favorite Christmas movie of all time. The story of Ralphie and his crazy family and his pursuit of getting a b-b gun is great. I can watch that over and over again on Christmas probably. I love the intermonologue throughout the movie. It's defintiely a Christmas Classic!
