4:08 am: As I begin writing this, it's nearly 4:00am. It's hard not having a reason to get up in the morning. It's harder to give oneself a reason. I'm so incretibly unmotivated right now, it's scary. I need to take some time to myself to figure out what direction I want my life to move, but I keep thinking that I don't have that luxury. I'd love to get my masters degree, but I need a job, I need health insurance, dental, and a means to pay my bills. I need to take the next step(s) in my life, but I have no idea what direction to move in. In other, less depressing news, I've decided upon naming the snake Allister. I also recently found out he has mites. Hooray for crappy pet stores. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the ingenuity of the livejournal team. The autosaving of drafts is amazing, because firefox just decided to take a shit for no apparent reason (or probably malformed myspace code). Yeah... 4:54 am: Stir Crazy / The so called real world You may have noticed my blog is on hiatus. You may not have. I need to talk to the world, so this is my secondary means. Alright, so I'm starting to lose it. I'm still grappling with the whole college grad / finding a job thing. What's worse, I've spent far too much time in my house over the last week. The Past Week: You see, my house seems to have turned into a storage unit for my sister, with all of her comings and goings, as well as all sorts of random pieces of furniture and electronicry that my mom has refused to get rid of. I keep pushing to just throw shit away, and finally my mom has started doing that, but now instead of the typical pack rat's "you never know if you'll need that" it's "I want to sell that, and make some money back". She's been saying that for years on some of this stuff. The words "Sunk Cost" come to mind. So for the past week - my first week after the completion of my undergraduate career - we've torn apart just about the entire house. I moved my bedroom upstairs - I'm sick of living in the dark basement. And that bedroom just has too many memories. Partly because of all the pictures hanging on the closet that I've left up since high school. Which also reminds me that I don't have nearly enough pictures from college. Somewhat disappointing. The Present: I've come to the realization that my friends are rather limited around here. I've only got 3 or 4 people around here that I still talk to and consider friends. I severed a good many friendships when I went to Ferris. Some by choice, others by accident. I need to rebuild my circle of friends around here. I've also realized that I really don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life. Here's the epiphany of the night: Working with computers is what I'm good at, not what I'm passionate about. I find a limited amount of enjoyment in working with computers, programming, developing, networking, etc... So thinking about the past 4 years, I try to also think about what I've been most passionate about, and a few things stick out: Student Government, Student Leadership, Bulldog Radio, and certain parts of the RA life. The biggest draw are the social aspects associated with each, but the activism and making the things around you better are big draws as well. The music aspect of BDR, and being able to speak my mind in various formats. The Week Ahead: So hopefully within the next week or so, I'll start spending time with some people. I need to really kick my job search into gear. I need to get my room in order. I'm also considering getting a pet snake. I don't even know what sparked the interest, but for some reason, I've had the idea of getting a snake stuck in my head for the last week or so. The animals just intrigue me. I was going to set up a fish tank here, but I realized fish are just living decorations. You can't do anything with them except feed them - so it's alot of work to keep a cube of water clean and habitable for small swimming decorations. I don't want to deal with that. I want a pet I can actually touch, take out of it's cage from time to time, and something that I find interesting. I've had experiences with keeping hamsters before, but the damn running on the wheel at 4 in the morning kept me awake, so I want something quiet. I think I need something new, something to sort of earmark this point in my life as a changing point. And no comencement doesn't count, that's not how my mind works.
