Luigi Mangione entered a guilty plea in federal court this morning, per Gothamist. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18; Mangione “faces up to life in prison for the federal crimes he pleaded guilty to, which were charges that he stalked Thompson and traveled to New York to kill him.”
I had assumed Mangione would have no trouble seating a sympathetic jury and taking his chances therewith, but perhaps those odds dwindle the more time that passes, idk. Gothamist’s piece from yesterday talks more about the difference between the two proceedings against Mangione, state and federal, and what the federal plea could mean for the state charges.

A federal district judge ruled Wednesday that Alex Murdaugh “cannot seek $600,000 from former Colleton County Clerk Becky Hill to pay for his legal fees because she had nothing to do with the murder charges that were filed against him.”

HBO has ordered Matthew Barry’s docudrama series The Trial of Louise Woodward — about the 1997 case in which an au pair was accused of killing her infant charge. No premiere date yet, though presumably it’s next year, pinning it to the case’s 30th anniversary.
The series will star Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type).

An ABC press release from last week announced the launch of “’20/20 True Crime+,’ a brand-new subscription for true crime fans worldwide,” which offers subscribers “exclusive content and early access to new series ahead of the public releases, along with archival shows from the ABC News vault.”
The blast also mentioned new pod series What Happened to the McStays? and Burden of Proof: Luigi Mangione.
