PlayStation has been building up the catalog of classics and new titles available to players through the PlayStation Plus game catalog. With the September 2025 State of Play presentation, that catalog of titles for PS5 owners is continuing to get larger, offering a variety of games to play on the console. Unlike previous showings of State of Play, some highly requested and classic games are making their way to the catalog, along with a few major titles to celebrate the legacy of PlayStation. Anyone with an active subscription to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra is going to have a lot of options in between all the newer releases for the latter part of the year.

But which games being added to PlayStation Plus should you consider downloading to your console? The titles coming to the service now are definitely for those who have some downtime as other major releases, like Ghost of Yotei, arrive on the PlayStation 5. But if you want something to keep you busy until you pick it up, there are some great options to explore. Here are three PlayStation Plus games announced at State of Play you have to download to your PS5 from the PS Plus library of games.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered

Staying hyped about the series

As part of the celebration for The Last of Us Day on September 26th, PlayStation added The Last of Us Part II Remastered to the PlayStation Plus game catalog. In the aftermath of the second season of the HBO series, people are still talking about The Last of Us Part series and where it could go next. While the second season of the show borrows a lot of elements from the game, those who want to experience the original story that influenced the HBO series can do so now through PlayStation Plus. But unlike the original release of The Last of Us Part II, the remastered version has a couple of changes that make things a little better for fans of the franchise.

The visuals of the game are enhanced in the remastered version, offering better lighting and shadows, as well as a Fidelity Mode that goes up to 4K resolution. The option for Performance Mode allows the game to be played at a smooth 60 fps and 1440p resolution. But besides the visual upgrade, The Last of Us Part II Remastered also has some additional content for players to explore. The roguelike game mode No Return will have everyone fighting random enemies and upgrading abilities, which will challenge anyone who is really familiar with the combat of the game. There's also a barrage of new unlockables, like new character skins and unfinished stages that didn't make it into the original release of the game, but can be explored now in the remaster.

As one of the bigger releases for PlayStation 5, this is the best version of The Last of Us Part II to play right now. Other enhancements for the game include full DuelSense support and faster load times during gameplay. For anyone that never dived into The Last of Us Part II during its initial release, they're in for a real treat with all the extra upgrades and additional content in this version on PS5.

Tekken 3

The classic fighter is arriving soon

To fighting game fans, one of the greatest fighting game releases of all-time is Tekken 3 on the original PlayStation. It followed up the success of its predecessor by giving more new fighters to play with, as well as more backstory and conflict within the Tekken universe for players to explore. For the most part, everyone that owned a PlayStation console back in the day more than likely also had a copy of Tekken 3 in their game library. And for a long time, PlayStation fans wondered if and when we would see Tekken 3 added to the classics catalog on PlayStation Plus. Now, in a partial celebration of the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will be able to download Tekken 3 to their console. The game is the third mainline entry in the series, which introduced more characters and some iconic extra modes that have become staples of the series ever since.

While no specific date was given for when the game would show up in the classics catalog, it won't be the only thing added to the service. The same day that Tekken 3 is available to download, PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be able to get Soulcalibur III and Tomb Raider Anniversary on PS Plus. Everyone will have to wait until later in the year when the games will be live for download, but the fact that one of the best fighting games on the PlayStation is finally going to be available is a big deal, especially if it will have trophy support like many other classic PlayStation titles that are being included on the PlayStation Plus classics catalog.

Alan Wake 2

A little survival horror for October

The monthly games for PlayStation Plus subscribers in October also gets a major release. Alan Wake 2 will be the big game that the service offers for all PS Plus subscribers, even at the PS Plus Essential tier. To many players, Alan Wake 2 was a fantastic third-person survival horror game that continued the story of novelist Alan Wake. The plot of the game has many dark and twisted turns that take players on a journey that far exceeds the scope of the first game. For many critics in 2023, when the game first launched, it was considered one of the best releases of the year, being nominated for multiple awards and received a lot of praise.

The gameplay is similar to the original game in some ways, but with more emphasis on horror elements that create a tense tone throughout the experience. There are two stories to follow, which focus on Alan Wake and Sage Anderson, that will have players exploring environments and fighting enemies with various guns and other items. Like in the original, focusing on enemies with something like a flashlight can make them vulnerable to damage, which is key for getting around major encounters that happen throughout the story. While the main game will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers in October, Alan Wake 2 also has two pieces of extra downloadable content. The Night Springs and The Lake House DLC added more characters and alternate versions of individuals seen in other Remedy Entertainment games, such as Quantum Break and Control.
