PREMISE

Colonel Stryker is dead. Jean Grey has risen from the ashes like a phoenix reborn. Magneto and Mystique are free, and they have taken young Pyro with them. Anti-mutant sentiment is on the rise around the country. Is Erik Lensherr correct? Is there a war brewing? Will mutants be the target of the next genocide?

But wherever there is despair, there is hope. There is a place where young mutants can live without fear of harassment, where they can be accepted for who they are. Welcome to Xavier's Institute of Higher Learning.

((This is an X-Men: Movieverse RPG, not one aspect of it is real.))

RULES
Read the rules before you apply!

1. This is a live-action RPG, meaning that you will be role-playing over the In-Character community board. In this game, personal character journals are run on the mansion's server so they are made public for all users to read unless the entry (or part of it) is marked "Private". Also note that disallowing comments is allowed, but that doesn't make the entry a private one.

2. Players must start a thread in the IC community, participate ine one, or update character journals atleast once every ten days. Notices will be posted in the OOC community, as long as the mods have an active e-mail address for the player, they will be sent one notice after that via e-mail. After that, they will be removed from the game and their characters will be up for grabs. Special cicumstances (vacation, overload on work, etc.) are, of course, excusable but we expect to be notified beforehand.

3. "Net slang" (u, r, kewl, omg, etc.) will not be tolerated. No exceptions. All posts must have proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Dialogue and personal journals are flexible because nobody speaks (or even writes) with perfect grammar, but actions must be well-written. We understand that typos happen, and if players have a few here and there, that's fine, but we do as that they are not an ongoing thing. Offending players will get up to two warnings if they consistently disregard this rule. If they ignore the warnings, they will be removed immediately. We may allow them back in if they are able to prove that they are able to write better than before they were removed.

4. People who are not in the RPG are not to be added to your friends list. On that note, please have all members added to your list, this way everyone is up-to-date on journal activities.

5. This RPG is slash-friendly but don't over-do it. Not everyone is gay or bi-sexual so don't make it that way, we'd like to keep things relatively balanced. Once more, if any of this bothers you, either ignore it or do not join. We won't tolerate complaining or bashing.

6. AIM is a necessity, not only can LJ be a bitch at times due to servers and things but role-playing is often done via logs on AIM. It is also a good way for players to contact each other (not to mention us mods!). Have this screen name posted in your userinfo, you don't have to make a new character screen name though unless you want to.

7. Do not restrict yourself to "couple" threads only, not only is it boring but it's incredibly annoying. Get involved with everyone else.

8. Out of character comments should be restricted parenthesis, brackets, and/or small font. Thoughts and telepathy should be in italics.

9. If you want to keep a thread closed or reserved for you and another character or group of characters, specify at the bottom of your post or in the heading. If there is nothing specified, the post is assumed to be open. No deleting posts, unless you specify a closed thread beforehand and the warning has been ignored.

Notice: At this point, the third rule is what we'll be very anal about. It's a rule that should NOT be broken. LJ has a spell-check and preview option for you when you make posts and replies to people, if you're too lazy to read over your post beforehand for big errors, then you really have no need being here.

Application Process
Please follow this process exactly

When writing your application, please do not simply copy and paste information from biographies offered on X-men websites.
This only shows us that you know how to use your computer- not that you know, or understand, your character. We will no longer be accepting applications that are purely "copy and paste". Any players with applications like this will be asked to resubmit.

1. Email this address with the following information:
-Character name: Include preferred nicknames, if you wish.
-Character codename: If your character has a codename, include it. However, unless they are a member of the X-men the name will not be in use.
-Character Occupation: Most likely, your character will be either a student, an employee of the mansion, a teacher, or an X-men. However, if you feel your character has a different occupation, feel free to list that too. Note that not all characters can be X-Men.
-Character Powers: A detailed explanation of your character’s powers. Known weakness would be appreciated as well, to avoid God!Moding. If you want to play a student, remember they either have not yet realized their full potential or do not have full control over their powers, so they may not be as powerful as they are in the comics until they have trained.
-Character Personality: A basic outline of how you intend to portray your character. What makes your character tick? By detailing your character’s personality, this will prevent out-of-character behavior. While growth of a character is welcomed, it has to be realistic and, well, still in character.
-Character History/Backstory: Alright, some rules for establishing your character’s history.
1. Movie canon is a must! If it happened in the movie, it happened in the RPG.
2. Comic canon is highly suggested. However, only a basic knowledge is necessary. You can get more in depth, but if you're unable to, don't worry. Also, don't feel restricted to comic canon. If you want to change, add, or delete an aspect of a character that was established in the comics, please feel free to do so. We would just like to see the general spirit of the comics upheld.
3. To keep things simple, if in comic canon your character was involved with another X-team, do NOT include it in your character’s history. For this game, X-Force, X-Factor, Excalibur, and Generation X do not exist. There is only the X-Men.
4. Once again, since the movie has established the timeline to be around the emergence of the Phoenix, try to keep your history to before the comics' Phoenix saga. This isn't mandatory, and will be judged on a per character basis, but it is a suggestion.
5. Overall, keep your history simple, but be sure to mention life altering events. What made your character the person they are today? Include a reason for your characters presence in the school. Also, it might be nice to explain what your character was doing during the events of the second movie.
6. And, this is really important- if your character has a minimal background in the comics, please, improvise and create your own history. Incomplete backgrounds are unacceptable! We don't need to know their life story, but some general details on major events previous to the movies, and information on what they've been doing during and after the movies is essential.
-Sample Journal Entry (1st Person): This sample must be written in the first person point-of-view. This would be something your character would put in his or her personal journal. It could be there thoughts on the school, life in general, something that has happened to them lately, whatever you can muster that actually makes sense. It should be atleast one (well-written) paragraph in length.
-Sample Journal Entry (3rd Person): This sample must be written int he first person point-of-view. This would be something you would post in the in-character community. It must be atleast one (well-written) paragraph in length.
-Plot Arc (optional): While this is not mandatory, it is highly suggested. This gives the mods a chance to see players as writers. Feel free to write a paragraph or two about a possible plot arc involving your character and at least one other. This can be either a game-wide plot or a simple relationship story between a small set of characters. And please note that if you write a one, you do not have to stick to it in the game. This is for evaluation purposes only, to see if applicants are capable of coming up with ways to involved their characters with others.

NOTE: Sometimes we make exceptions. So, if you want to include something that’s not mentioned here, or even something we said NOT to do, go ahead. We might allow it. Or we might not. You never know. And even if you are not accepted right away, the mods will work with you so you can resubmit your application.

2. If you wish, you may go ahead and create a journal for your character and send the name along with your application. This way we can add you to the community faster. However, if you wish to wait until you're approved, we will e-mail you back and then you can create the journal. We would like you to have a separate journal for your character, because it would get confusing with a lot of people using their personal journals.

3. Please, send only one application per email. We would like as many people as possible to play, so give others a chance. :) Try applying later.

4. Please no original characters. There are plenty of mutants to choose from that are presented in the comic books. Why not try here for a name?

Random Mutterings

OOC Journal: You will be added to the OOC journal (salemcenter) as soon as your character is added to the game. This is where you post icon requests, introductions, random XI related silliness.

Note: This is all in fun. We're here to have a good time and play. Please do not take anything personally or too seriously. We assure you that while our characters might not like yours, that doesn't mean that we hate you.
