The X-Files made it in as one of the 7 mega-fandoms eligible for this year's not_primetime (not_primetime at LJ, and npt_admin are where all the current announcements are). This is the mid-year, mid-sized fandoms answer to Yuletide. I've participated both as a regular writer/recipient and as a pinch hitter for a few years, and it's a blast. A good stretch of those writerly muscles, too.
So, now that XF made it in - we're going to need people to participate this year from XF fandom!
The first step will be to nominate XF and relevant characters in the nominations period that begins April 5-April 15. This is one of those fanfic exchanges that uses Archive of Our Own, so you'll need an account there.
I am really excited XF is included, so I'm hoping some of you will participate. I'll post reminders of course :-) Please share this on any XF communities you think may still have active writers (or inactive, lurking writers :-)
I was wondering if anyone could help me with the title of a fic; I may be getting senile and I get the feeling this is probably one I should remember but anyway, I can only remember a few details. THe fic is set in the cancer arc, and it has a scene with Scully's birthday and with Mulder and Scully painting Mulder's bathroom walls. Any guesses would be much appreciated :)
I wrote this for crossovering. It's a prequel to another crossover fic, Reason, which is also set in the Fringe canon alternate universe, but both stories work as stand-alones.
Second Chances (7664 words) by wendelah1 Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The X-Files, Fringe Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Fox Mulder & Dana Scully, Fox Mulder/Dana Scully Characters: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Charlie Francis Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon, Case Fic Summary:
The man who broke Donnie Pfaster out of prison is tearing holes in the fabric of the universe. It's The X-Files episode "Orison," in the canon AU of Fringe.
The X-Files is Love is a month-long multimedia celebration of The X-Files where each participant claims a date and then posts some new X-Files related fanworks on their day. This can be fic, graphics, icons, vids, podfic, essays, a memoir of your days in the X-Files fandom, or pretty much anything as long as it's new and original. You can do as little or as much as you want—the day is yours!
This year xf_is_love will run from October 1-31, culminating with a free-for-all on Halloween. Besides the usual claim-a-day fest (no episode claiming this year), ruuger and I have also planned some other activities, including another mini-rewatch, which will be announced later.
In honor of Dana Scully's upcoming 50th birthday, tree and I created scully_fest, which began on February 14th and will continue through Herself's natal celebration. Activities include posting of fanworks, with a free-for-all on her birthday, and a daily re-watch and discussion of carefully curated Scully-centric episodes. Members are still voting on which episode to watch on February 23.
Let's backtrack for a moment. Back in the day, there was an X-Files community, meaning a mailing list, called Scullyfic. In 2001, the list administrator Jill Selby issued a challenge: write a 155 word story about Dana Scully. You can read the stories that resulted at Scully in 155. The fics are not all exactly 155 words: some are a little longer, some shorter.
In conjunction with scully_fest we thought it would be fun to issue the same challenge to the The X-Files community. You can post the stories as a comment to this post, either in a comment or a link. Anonymous commenting is currently allowed if you'd rather go that route. You can also post your story on your day if you signed up for one. Or if you'd rather, you can wait for her birthday free-for-all day.
In conclusion, this is totally doable, fanfic writers. We already have four 155s posted. Create your 155 word ficlet, and then come share it.
