KOMPSAT 1 [KARI]
The KOMPSAT 1 (Korean Multi-purpose Satellite 1) or Arirang 1 (아리랑 1) Earth observation satellite was developed jointly by KARI and TRW. The payload is consisted of three instruments:
- Electro-Optical Camera (EOC),
- Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI),
- Space Physics Sensor (SPS)
On 31 January 2008 the Korean Aerospace Research Industry (KARI) decided to formally terminate the eight-year KOMPSAT-1 mission, since controllers had lost contact with the satellite.
