An open pit gold mine situated 150 km southwest of San Pedro de Sula, near the border to Guatemala and 18 km due west of the town of Santa Rosa de Copán.

The mine has operated since 1983 after being explored in the 1930s and 1940s.

The area is also reported to be the site of early Spanish gold discoveries in the early 1500s.
