The May Downs area contains Precambrian schists with some interesting mineral occurrences. Most notable is the Talc pod deposit: a dravite occurrence in a small, pod-like mass of talc-rich rock (see https://www.mindat.org/loc-430061.html), now worked-out. The dravite crystals can reach up to 20 cm in length.
The Slaughteryard creek deposit itself seems to be hosted in different rocks. “The Slaughteryard Creek dravites are pretty much all black single crystals with no compounding of the crystal form and sometimes have minor coatings of iron oxide or foliated muscovite mica.” (Peter Andersen: https://www.mindat.org/mesg-614728.html).
