Outcrop of Agenian (Lower Miocene) marls and gypsum contains meter-scale flint nodules, extending roughly ENE–WSW from Azaila (Teruel) to Lécera (Zaragoza).
The flint nodules host cavities whose walls are lined with small quartz crystals—sometimes colorless, but more often in various shades of amethyst. Orange celestine crystals occur on top of the amethyst. Some cavities are completely filled with gypsum or anhydrite.
