A former Ag-Cu-Pb-Au-Mn-Baryte-Sb-As-F (fluorspar) occurrence/mine. Discovered in 1865 and first produced in 1866. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is a Pliocene polymetallic deposit (Deposit model: Model code 72; USGS model code 19a; deposit model name: Polymetallic replacement; Mark3 model number 47), hosted in the Late Devonian Jefferson Limestone (medium-grained, shaly magnesian limestone). Deposit is on the crest and West limb of the Philipsburg Anticline, which trends about N20E and pitches about 15N. Local rocks include Devonian rocks, undifferentiated.

Workings include underground openings featuring the Shapleigh shaft.
