Mineral List

Mineral list contains entries from the region specified including sub-localities

5 valid minerals.

Detailed Mineral List:

ⓘ Almandine
Formula: Fe2+3Al2(SiO4)3
Habit: combination dodecahedral and trapezohedral
Colour: burgundy to red
Description: Raman spectroscopy indicated that the garnets found at this mine are predominately almandine, but had some pyrope and spessartine components (as are essentially all schist and gneiss-hosted almandines in New England). Analysis done by EDXRF showed a high amount of iron (not surprising), then manganese and minor amounts of calcium (Williams and Williams, 2014). Crystals to about 1 cm.
ⓘ Dravite
Formula: NaMg3Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Habit: elongated prisms
Colour: dark brown to black
Description: thin, elongated crystals to 1 cm or so. Identified by a "Connecticut university" according to Wilson (2014).
ⓘ Graphite
Formula: C
Description: The host matrix for the garnets is a graphite-bearing mica schist or phyllite. See http://www.mindat.org/forum.php?read,7,357206,357206,page=1#msg-357206
ⓘ Quartz
Formula: SiO2
ⓘ Staurolite
Formula: Fe2+2Al9Si4O23(OH)
