St Barnabé (Filons du Demberg et du Fundelkoepfel), Vallon de Murbach, Vallée de la Lauch, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France
Iron-bearing quartz veins, hosted by carboniferous volcano-sedimentary rocks (Visé) of the Thann series in the contact zone between schists and greywackes (below) and intrusive latites of the Demberg massif (above). The veins occupy fractures in the Vosges fault zone.
This deposit was extensively worked, developing the Fundelkoepfel vein on a length of about 130 m and to a depth of 50 m. The portals remaining of some of the adits indicate that the mines were worked over a long period of time, probably from the 16th to the 18th century. An exact dating, however, is not possible.
Located on the southeast slope of Demberg mountain, NE of Saint Barnabé.
