Calcite crystals in dolostone cavities, evidencend during the costruction of the road tunnel under Monte Corno between Rupe (southern outskirts of Mezzolombardo) and Rocchetta in the period 2000-2008.
Incidentally, note that "rupe" means "cliff" in Italian!
In the southern half of the tunnel calcite has been found as rhombohedral crystals up to 6 cm in size, varying in colour from white to orange and reddish; in the northern half calcite appeared only as semitransparent scalenohedral crystals, which can attain more than 10 cm in length, often twinned.
