Little is known of the Lac La Belle exploration. In 1847, the mine employed ten to fifteen men to clear land and mine a small fissure vein. A company report mentioned that 400 tons of ore described as a "grey sulphurette of copper" (chalcocite?) had been raised and was awaiting processing. A small smelter was built to process ore onsite. By 1853, the operations became part of the New York & Michigan Company. The mine was still in operation in 1859, but nothing is known of the site after this.
