The Manhattan Mining Company was organized in 1852 and worked the former Albion Mining Company site that operated between 1845 and 1852. The company explored the property in 1856 and 1857, finding several promising veins. Activity at the mine was idle from 1859 to 1862 after one of the owners passed away. By 1862, there were homes for miners, a blacksmith and carpenter shop, and horse stables. The company reported two shafts that were being worked on the property. Between 1845 and 1882, only five tons of copper were recovered from the site, leading the company to abandon the site by 1883.
