The Meadow Mining Company was organized in 1853 to work 364 acres of land located between the Garden City and Humboldt Mines that was explored in 1851 and found to contain transverse fissure veins containing copper. In 1852, the mine worked on three veins named North Vein (or, Northeast Vein), Middle Vein, and South Vein (or, Southwest Vein) The workings were 30 feet deep. Two shafts were sunk around 1854 on the fissure 300 feet apart and some large masses of copper were removed, but no production was ever recorded. Work was also conducted around several prehistoric pits, but with little success. Sometime after this period, work ceased at the mine. In 1898, the company was reincorporated and then sold to Calumet and Hecla. C&H explored the property and drove an inclined shaft to explore the Ashbed Lode, but the Lode proved to be too inconsistent at depth and work ceased in 1900.

Mineralization is a fissure copper vein deposit (Deposit Model: 96: Native Cu), hosted in the Portage Lake Volcanics (basalt). The ore body is Ashbed lode and is irregular in shape. Local rocks are brecciated basalt flows, amygdaloidal basalts and/or interflow conglomerates that vary with the location. The piles are accessible off the Garden City Road where one can find copper, prehnite, and pumpellyite.
