An underground copper mine consisting of two shafts located in northeast Ontonagon County. The Algonquin Mining Company was incorporated in 1847 and operated a small mining operation near the Douglass Houghton Mine with which it shared the same mineralogy. Miners working the property sunk the main shaft to a depth of 30 feet. Between 40 and 45 tons of copper ore was removed which graded to 30 percent per ton. In 1857, all operations were stopped and the mine was later bought by the Belt Mining Company in 1882. Sometime during this period, the name was changed to the Pennsylvania, but no work was noted. It is said that copper, epidote, and quartz can be found. The current site is located on what appears to be a hunting camp or farm. Visit with permission
