A Cu occurrence/prospect located in sec. 9, T49N, R41W, M, 11.9 km (7.4 miles) NE of Bergland, W of the Norwich lookout tower, near the confluence of Cascade Creek and the Ontonagon River, on National Forest land.

The Cascade Mining Company organized in 1853 on land adjacent to the Sharon Mine. Exploration pits were dug in 1853 and 1854 with little success. No significant mining ever took place at the mine, even though it had the great advantage of an abundant water supply. In 1863, the mine was sold to New York investors.

Mineralization is a fissure deposit (Deposit Model: 96: Native Cu), hosted in the Portage Lake Volcanics (basalt). The ore body is irregular. Local rocks include alternate brecciated basalt flows, amygdaloidal basalts and/or interflow conglomerates, which vary with location. Local geologic structures include a regional syncline. No support was found in historical data that this site was mined. Grant Day reported finding one shallow shaft at 12 feet diameter and 9 feet deep.
