The local geology includes:
- granites with quartz veins
- calc-silicate rocks with underlying mica schists
- hornfelses
- graphite-bearing quartzites

The quartz veins, with the rock crystal and smoky quartz varieties present, were once exploited. An example is a 20-cm-long crystal. Shell-like texture evident. Most crystals are/were twinned. Some covered by hematite, romanèchite, and limonite. Adular also present.
