Porphyry (Shaxi) and associated skarn (Changpushang) copper-gold deposit, related to a Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous quartz diorite porphyry that intruded Silurian argillaceous siltstone and Jurassic sandstone.
The deposit is worked by several mines.
It is a large porphyry-type Cu-Au deposit with confirmed copper resources exceeding 1 Mt and gold resources exceeding 40 tons. Studies on the petrographic geochemistry and trace elements in the mining area indicate that the Shaxi deposit belongs to the crust-mantle intracontinental porphyry-type deposit, and the formation of quartz diorite porphyry was related to magma underplating and partial melting of ferromagnesian lowermost crust. Various types of intrusions are found in the Shaxi deposit, including coarse-grained diorite porphyry and quartz diorite porphyries (medium- and fine-grained quartz diorite porphyries, and biotite quartz diorite porphyry), with quartz diorite porphyries being the main ore-bearing intrusions. The Shaxi porphyry-type Cu-Au deposit has been subdivided into four mineralized segments, from north to south: Fengtaishan, Tongquanshan, Duanlongjing, and Longtoushan, with the Fengtaishan and Tongquanshan segments containing most of the mineralization. The mineralization stages of the deposit can be divided into a potassium silicate stage, quartz sulfide stage, and quartz carbonate stage.
