A famous hyalophane occurrence. In the 1950's the Yugoslav electronics industry sought local sources of quartz crystals for their piezoelectric properties, and a geological prospecting programme was initiated. Geologist V. Simic discovered a quartz vein in the bed of Zagradski Potok (potok = creek) in 1953. This vein contained vughs lined with quartz crystals and crystals of a then incompletely characterised feldspar mineral. Surface pits and underground workings eventually yielded over 500 kg of quartz crystals and a similar amount of feldspar crystals, which were found to be the barium feldspar, hyalophane. Hyalophane crystals were distributed to universities and institutes etc and some found their way into private hands.
Private collectors obtained more high quality hyalophane from the site in the 1970s until the 1990s according to the article of Zorz.
