The Ciapa Liscia (or Ciava Liscia on the I.G.M. map), located near the border with the Metropolitan city of Genova (Liguria), is part of the N-S oriented ridge, connecting Monte Crociglia with Groppo Rosso and dividing the middle Aveto Valley to the west and the upper Nure Valley to the east. The name of the mountain is connected with the smooth and subvertical shapes of its western slope (the word ciapa, or ciappa, in the local dialect indicates a flat piece of stone and also a buttock), originated from the sliding of a fault.

The name Ciapa Lisca is improperly used from many mineral collectors to indicate the scree bordering a smooth-looking wall of this mountain, but originated from a layer of ophiolitic lava pillows on the adjacent Rocca Marsa.
