Local stratigraphy comprises mainly the Paleoproterozoic ore-hosting Gaixian and Dashiqiao formations of the Liaohe Group, which contain substantial amount of sulfate minerals (e.g., barite and gypsum). The Gaixian Formation is mainly composed of biotite-/sillimanite-/barite-mica schist and granulite. The Dashiqiao Formation contains (dolomitic-) marble and garnet-/barite-mica schist. The ore bodies are mainly developed along the interlayer faults between these two formations.
The Xiaotongjiapuzi deposit has four fault-controlled ore bodies (No. I to IV), among which No. I and II ore bodies have the highest Au reserve. No. I ore body occurs in the structural zone at the top of the Dashiqiao Formation, and the ore host includes mainly dolomitic/silicified marble, sillimanite-/tourmaline schist, and biotite granulite. The ore body (3.08–7.18 g/t) is 60–150 m long, 1.0–5.4 m thick, strikes 70–90°, and dips to the north at 10–25°, which is similar to the stratigraphic orientation. No. II ore body occurs in the structural zone between the Dashiqiao Formation mica schist and marble. The ore host comprises mainly granulite, followed by silicified marble and mica schist. The ore body (4.56–21.50 g/t) is 70–200 m long, 0.96–17.29 m thick, strikes 70–90°, and dips to the north at 10–30°.
Mineral assemblages, ore textures and vein crosscutting relationships indicate four alteration/mineralization stages: (I) quartz-pyrite-Au, (II) quartz-pyrite-biotite-Au, (III) Au-barren quartz-pyrite, and (IV) quartz-calcite. Only stages I, II, and III (ore-barren) contain varying gold content.
