The thulite quarry is located about 350 m above sea level, on the eastern side of the lake Øvre Grandalsdammen (coordinates for the lake: 63.633082626755815N, 10.409632297515753E). Coordinates are set to the lake, not the quarry itself.
It is a 1.5 to 2 hours walk on a steep hillside from the RV 755. The locality was first described by Reusch (1890). According to Reusch thulite from Leksvik was sold in 1890 in Paris for Nkr 175-200 per ton.
Thulite from this quarry has been used for cutting cabochons.
Collecting is strictly forbidden, and violators will be prosecuted. However, according to a sign posted at the locality, samples of thulite are for sale at the owner's house at Hindrum.
