VMS-type lead-zinc deposit with superimposed reformation.
The Tiemurt Pb-Zn-Cu deposit in Xinjiang is located in the Kelan volcanic-sedimentary basin at the southern margin of the Altay Orogen. The structural framework within the deposit area is complex. The deposit formed in a back-arc extensional basin setting on the Late Paleozoic active continental margin of the southern Siberian Plate. Mineralization is structurally controlled by the NW-trending Abagong Fault and the Salarekuobu Synclinorium, with the Abagong Fault directly dictating the spatial distribution of the orebodies. This medium-sized deposit has an estimated proven Pb + Zn reserve of approximately 2.9 × 105 t, with an average Pb + Zn + Cu grade of 5.84% (Pb > Zn). The ore-hosting stratigraphic horizon is the Upper Silurian–Lower Devonian Kangbutiebao Formation. This formation has a total thickness of approximately 500 to 1500 m and can be divided into three lithological members from bottom to top. The mineralization is specifically hosted in the second lithological member of the upper subgroup (D1K22), and the immediate host rocks comprise Fe-Mn-rich marble, chlorite-biotite-quartz schist, and meta-calcareous sandstone. These ore-controlling faults are mostly localized within the second lithological member of the Kangbutiebao Formation, developing along the contact interface between Fe-Mn-rich calcareous beds and meta-rhyolitic crystal tuffs. The Tiemurt orebodies predominantly occur as tabular to lenticular shapes strictly controlled by these NE-dipping faults. Quantitatively, the main orebodies extend from tens of meters to over 1000 m in length, with a precise strike of 314°–318° (NW), a dipping direction of 44°–48°, and dip angles of 49°–60°.
