Pitney Butte Mine; Egypt Mine

A molybdenum mine north of Davenport on the north side of Pitney Butte. The ore occurred in a quartz vein in quartz monzonite. Development consisted of an upper adit and a lower adit worked in 1956. Some ore was reported to have been produced in 1941.

Tectonics: Cretaceous Granitic Rocks Intrude Rocks Of The Kootenay Arc And Adjacent Terranes In Northeastern Washington (Rhodes And Hyndman, 1988).

Geology: At the spokane molybdenite mine the cretaceous, fine-grained monzogranite is cut by a dike of the sanpoil volcanics (becraft and weis, 1963, p. 67).

Ore(s): Quartz Is Found In Muscovite-Rich Pegmatite Veins Of Two Types: (1) Milky White Quartz And (2) Gray, Massive Quartz In Segregations. Both Types Of Quartz Contain Sparse Flakes Of Molybdenite (Becraft, And Weis, 1963, P. 67-68). A Cross Fracture In The Main Vein Contains Lenses Of Black Radioactive Material (Huntting, 1956, P. 269).
