Quartz vein- and greisen-type tungsten-molybdenum deposit (over 300 veins), occurring in the southern contact zone of the Hukeng granite intrusion which forms part of the Wugongshan metallogenic belt in west-central Jiangxi Province.

The Hukeng tungsten deposit is a large-scale hydrothermal wolframite-quartz-vein-type deposit. It can be divided into the Xinsheng’ao sector, the Xijialong sector and the Damai sector. Around 400 ore-bearing quartz veins have been explored, which can be classified into large-vein type (the Xinsheng’ao and Damai sector) and stockwork type (the Xijialong sector). In the Damai sector, in the southern part of the deposit, there are around 300 large quartz veins, trending WNW to ENE, occurring along fissures within the Hukeng granite, parallel to the contact of the granite with country rocks. According to the cross-cutting relationships between veins and mineral assemblages, ore-bearing quartz veins of three paragenesis stages can be identified, including (VⅠ) quartz-wolframite vein, (VⅡ) quartz-fluorite-scheelite-wolframite vein and (VⅢ) quartz-pyrite-sphalerite-wolframite vein. Some veins have narrow wall-rock alteration zones on both sides, mainly composed of greisen, silica and sericite.
With outcrops of about 14 km2, the Hukeng granite is located in the center of the Wugongshan area and intruded into the sericite phyllite of the Ediacaran Laohutang Formation. It occurs as a rock stock, which are textually zoned from the fine-grained facies at the edge, the medium to fine-grained facies in the middle, to the medium to coarse-grained facies in the core.

Note:
Ottens (2009) erroneously refers to this deposit as being located in Quannan County, in the far south of the province, while the grid reference provided in his paper plots in eastern Guangdong Province (the same wrong coordinates are also listed in USGS circular 930-O). According to Chinese references, though, this deposit forms part of the Wugongshan metallogenic belt and is located in the west-central part of the province.
