The clay pits are intensively exploited for brick manufacturing by Wienerberger Bricks and are located on private property.

Permission to enter must be sought at all times.

Entering the workings involves a great risk as you might get stuck in the clay, which reacts as quicksand.

The Boom Clay is dominated by illite-smectite and kaolinite.

During recent studies (UCL 2003- 2004) a whole suite of minerals has been described.

Most of them are only present as inclusions, grains or thin sections which are far beyond the possibilities to detect by the average amateur.

Interesting minerals are found in the septarian nodules (locally called "kleibrood", "clay bread", as they look like loaves of bread from the outside) which are present at certain levels.

The origin of these septaria is still in debate and is not quite certain.

Fossil shark teeth are found in the clay too.

On top of the clay are some sand layers containing shark teeth as well, especially on the contact with the clay.
