The mine was discovered in 1895. It is part of the Birdwood Goldfields.
Blumberg is also the original name for the township of Birdwood, South Australia, used until WWI when the place names committee changed it along with several other German names in South Australia.
The mine is believed to be currently under license, so no access is allowed.
