A non-operatng Copper mine formerly operated by Mareeba Mining & Exploration near the Palmer River, about 100km SW of Cooktown.

From Bonzle: In 1970 an old time prospector named Bob Ketty who lived in Mnt Carbine and was married to an aboriginal girl was told by her of the place of the green rocks (signs of copper) so Bob went looking and found the area, A company pegged 2 leases of 6 ac each and called them "Enterprise 1&2" These were later changed to 4 MLs of App 500 Ha. The actual Mine was named after Bob's wife's name "DIANNE".After many holes drilled and nothing found another company called Mareeba Mining & Exploration" took up the option and invited "White Industries" into a joint venture, In 1976 Over 20 holes were drilled with no results so it was decided to drill 1 more hole in a different direction and the rest is history, This hole intersected about where 3 level was developed and was 4m in width, assaying 68% Cu. Mining started soon after, and operations ceased in 1982. Another company took over the leases and removed the pillars around the shaft and the Crown pillar, It is now a big hole full of green water. Total Ore removed above 25% Cu was 90,000T A lot of ore still remains below 6 level.

This mine is in Cook Shire, but as it had been developed by the Mareeba Mining & Exploration company, this may explain why it was mistakenly originally linked to Mareeba town (160km to the SE) and Mareeba Shire (http://www.mindat.org/loc-16974.html).
