Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Languedoc-Roussillon

The locality was named after the nearby Rivièral stream, a 6.2 km long tributary of the Rivernoux stream (source: https://www.annuaire-mairie.fr/ruisseau-de-rivieral.html).

Uranium prospect 3/4 km SW of Le Bosc and ca. 5 km SE of Lodève.

Notes on the mineral list:

George Favreau, Mindat message board post on 11-03-2008 (https://www.mindat.org/mesg-90318.html):

"I am very dubious about the sulfides included in the Rivièral mineral list. I never saw most of them (except sphalerite), but they were abundant in other places of the district, especially the open cut mines in dolomites/conglomerates (Mas d’Alary, Les Mares…): bournonite, chalcopyrite, galena, marcasite,… ⁣ The same applies for the carbonates, such as azurite, cerussite, dolomite, malachite. In the nearby locality of La Plane, some carbonates were found, mainly in septaria (siderite, calcite), but in Rivièral the carbonates seemed rare (maybe a little rutherfordine). I wonder whether some specimens from other localities could have been labelled as "Rivièral" specimens."

George Favreau, Mindat message board post on 17-12-2007 (https://www.mindat.org/mesg-82817.html):

"Moreover, the occurrence [of metakirchheimerite] in Rivieral (France) is very questionable. I know the locality well, having searched for metalodevite and abernathyite, and also some of those who have worked on it. To my knowledge, no analysis was made on the specimen previously owned by Alain Caubel that served as the basis for introducing this name in the list of minerals from this locality (he told me). Maybe the current owner of this specimen could help by having an analysis made on it."
