Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Rudebeck Mine; Rudebeck-Florence Rae Mine; Margaret Moshier Mine; Copper Knob Mine

The Florence Rae was a small copper mine on the North Fork of the Sultan River and comprised some 14 unpatented claims.

The mine has a long, mostly unproductive history. Between 1918-19 and 1938-41 the mine is credited with 600 tons of production averaging 12% copper. The workings consisted of several adits, the largest of which being the Moshier which was just over 1,000' long. Based off of the present condition of the workings, it appears that most of the production came from a single pod near the surface, and the rest of development was in a failed search for more ore.
Above the Moshier adit in the cliffs was the Copper Knob pit which mined another small high grade pod. A small tramway connected the Copper Knob and the Moshier adit. The Moshier adit was connected by a tramway down to the Rudebeck cabin at the creek. There was at one time plans to make a rail line up the river to service the mine, but this never happened.
Tectonics: Cascade Volcanic Arc

Deposit: Nature of deposit is unclear from descriptions. It appears As if it may represent two distinct episodes of mineralization, the first a magmatic segregation and the second a hydrothermal overprint. There are 4 main vein systems and lenses of chromite to 4 x 5 ft. Attitude is of one mineralized shear zone

Deposit type: Dunitic Ni-Cu

Geology: Melange is part of a series of accreted terranes

Rock formation(s): Eastern Melange Belt;Eastern Melange Belt;Eastern Melange Belt;Index Batholith
