Silver/Lead ore was discovered on section 1599 durring June 1848, and mining began the following month. Various mining ventures have operated here until as recently as the late 1970's. Located approx 8 km East of Riverton.
Records show over 150 tons of galena ore raised 1848-51, 100 kg of copper ore grading 15%Cu in 1894, and some galena production durring 1964.
The section 1599 was divided into four sections in 1866, with the majority of the workings remaining on the new section 99.
Originally consisting of four main shafts, the site changed to open cuts and costeans durring the last period of mining.
