A lead mine in the Afon Cynin valley near the farmhouse of Cwm in the parish of Tre-Lech a'r Betws. Although reported to have been worked about 1810, it was reopened in 1857 as Carmarthen United Mine.
Now much overgrown, the mine was worked from a shaft driven to 66 fathoms and from two adits that connect underground. Working appears to have finished about 1864, with accounts showing 265 tons of ore having been sold between 1857-61. Total output between 1857-64 appears to have been somewhere between 514-735 tons of ore raised.
Unsuccessful attempts to float and rework the mine were made in 1864 & 1865 by the Trelech Lead Mining Company, in 1870 by the Santa Clara Silver-Lead Mining Company, and in 1871 by the Carmarthen Silver-Lead Mining Company. Additionally, although Trelech was listed between 1882-91 in the the List of Mines, there is no record of any output for any of these companies and it appears that little if anything was done after 1864.
