Moisesberg kobberverk, Fyresdal, Telemark, Norge

Moisesberg mines are among the oldest mines in Norway, and are protected as cultural heritage as all other mines in Norway from before 1537 and any collecting is forbidden.
In more recent time the area is called area of Moberg og Grusen mines.

The mining periods were:
Moisesberg kobberverk: 1541-1549,
small-scale mining ca. 1553-1558?
as part of Åmdals Verk: ca. 1687-1699, ca. 1749-1760, 1797-1812, ca. 1861-1872 and 1889-1890.

The production has been 20 ton copper and 50 kg silver.

During the 1990's, the Norsk Bergverksmuseum studied this mining area, and registered 132 exploration trenches("røsk" in Norwegian), 20 prospects, 16 adits with 2 ventilation shafts and 20 fire-places ("kolgroper" in Norwegian). The relatively well-preserved state of these sites gave a unique insight in old mining techniques (Berg 2006).

One of the touristic attractions in the municipality of Fyresdal is Moisesberg Kulturminneløype a 2,5 km footpath in the forest showing some of these cultural-historical sites.
