Sakura-jima volcano
An active andesitic stratovolcano located in the 25km wide Aira caldera, at 1,117 m.
One of the world's most active volcanos, emitting ash most days of the year. Lower slopes can be approached, although hiking is almost impossible on the very rough lava flows, but climbing the volcano is prohibited because of the danger.
Eruptions include: 16 November 2025; 14 February 2024; 9 February 2023; 24 July 2022; 3 October 2020; 11 January 1914.
