Underground works during the construction of the hydroelectric power station "Luigi Einaudi" (the largest in Italy).

In the area of Punta Chistafort, a mountain to the north of the Vallone di Chistafort, various mineral finds are reported from the underground excavations.

From the Chiotas-Piastra gallery, hosting the pressure pipe which connects the Chiotas reservoir (Bacino del Chiotas or Lago del Chiotas) to the Piastra reservoir (Lago della Piastra), the most famous mineral find of this area has been recorded. The excavation works evidenced a large fissure, ca. 2 m in width and various metres (between 6 and 10 m or more) in height, filled with gneiss blocks of various sizes cemented by crystallised calcite. This very typical calcite, which appears as milky-white pseudohexagonal prismatic crystals up to 5-6 cm on edge, was erroneously labelled by some collectors as "vaterite". Calcite crystals are always grown on carpets of tiny colourless prismatic crystals of phillipsite, which envelop the gneiss blocks. Other clefts in this gallery yielded globular prehnite; anatase crystals with complex habit, synchysite-(Ce), chlorite, and quartz.

From the Rovina-Piastra gallery, hosting the pressure pipe which connects the Rovina Lake (Lago della Rovina) to the Piastra reservoir (Lago della Piastra), clear pseudocubic crystals of chabazite were collected.

The pedestrian gallery at 1800 m and the large dump below its outward window (44°11'53"N, 7°20'56"E) yielded white lamellar calcite crystals, in association with colourless and often twinned crystals of harmotome, chalcopyrite, adularia, chlorite, etc. From the abundant rock material dumped below the window, some interesting sulphates, such as wilcoxite, gypsum, chalcantite, tschermigite, melanterite, and pickeringite, have been found in more recent times (Ciriotti et al., 2008; Ciriotti et al., 2020).
