The "Black Rapids mine" is probably the same as the Lyndhurst mine and the Steele mine.
As noted by Sabina (1967) the mine was originally operated during World War II to supply quartz for use in radio and radar equipment. Starting in 1951, quartz crystals, some of them over 30 cm long and doubly terminated, were being mined by Quartz Crystals Mines Limited, both from open pit and underground workings, in a breccia zone in gneiss.
In 1963 the property was operated by Mr. J.(Jim)B. Steele, presumably for quartz for the mineral trade. At that time, quartz crystals could be purchased from Mr. Steele for $1.00 per pound, regardless of their quality.
