Corral Lake

Approximately 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) due south of Moses Lake. Sulphate lake contained evaporate salt deposits and was mined in the early 1900's for sodium sulfates. The Columbia Basin Irrigation project, in particular O'Sullivan Dam, allowed fresh water seepage into the lake basin and the site was destroyed as a producer of salts. It is believed that the lake lay somewhere within Marsh Unit 1 of the Columbia NWR but it is uncertain exactly where the lake lay.
Deposit: Deposit contained 24,000 tons of sodium sulfate in solid crystal. It was mined and sold during world war I for use in the lmanufacture of kraft paper. The deposit has been destroyed As a saline lake by the u.s. Bureau of reclamation in connection with canal construction for the columbia basin irrigation project.
