The locality is in the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and Preserve.
Location: An unpublished National Park Service map places this prospect on the low ridge north of the junction of the lower Kluvesna River and the Kotsina River. The prospect is approximately located at an elevation of about 3,200 feet, 1,400 feet west of the center of section 3, T. 2 S., R. 8 E. of the Copper River Meridian. This is National Park Service locality WRST-120 and the latitude and longitude for this record were provided by the National Park Service.
Geology: An unpublished National Park Service map and accompanying database identify this locality as a silver and copper prospect. Bedrock in the area is Triassic Nikolai Greenstone (MacKevett and others, 1978). The widespread deposition of copper in Triassic greenstone and limestone of the area is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic or Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997). Copper-bearing minerals were deposited in the underlying Nikolai Greenstone at about 112 Ma (Silberman and others, 1980).
Workings: Perhaps some surface exploration.
Age: Cretaceous? The widespread deposition of copper in Triassic greenstone and limestone of the area is thought to have accompanied regional deformation and low-grade metamorphism in the Late Jurassic or Early Cretaceous (MacKevett and others, 1997). Copper-bearing minerals were deposited in the underlying Nikolai Greenstone at about 112 Ma (Silberman and others, 1980).
Alteration: Oxidation?
Commodities (Major) - Ag, Cu
Development Status: Undetermined.
