The prospect is now within the Wilderness of the Admiralty Island National Monument and is closed to mineral exploration and development.
Location: This occurrence is on the southwest shore of Hasselborg Lake 0.2 mile east of the gaging station at the mouth of Hasselborg Creek. The occurrence is on the north boundary of sec. 6, T. 49 S., R. 70 E. It is location 67 of Cobb (1972, 1978) and MAS no. 0021140177 (U.S. Bureau of Land Management, 2002). The location is accurate within 0.2 mile.
Geology: The rocks in the vicinity of this prospect are part of a unit of Mesozoic and Paleozoic, undifferentiated metamorphic rocks (Lathram and others, 1965). Race and Rose (1967) describe a vein of massive pyrite and chalcopyrite with a little quartz, in sheared and fractured chert. The vein is about a foot thick, strikes N40W, and dips 23NE. A sample contained 2 percent copper, 0.04 ounce of gold per ton, 0.66 ounce of silver per ton, and no lead, zinc, or nickel. The vein had been cleared off but they found no evidence of a claim.
Workings: The vein here had been cleared off but there was no evidence (in 1965) that a claim had been staked.
Age: Paleozoic or younger.
Development Status: None
Deposit Model: Vein of pyrite and chalcopyrite.
