Old tin mining area.

First mining on alluvial cassiterite in the 13th century, later tin ore veins were followed by adits. The mining activities ended in 1855.
The earliest record of the town dates to 1324 when it was referred to as "Cynsifen" (= tin alluvials).

Not to be confused with Seifen in the Czech part of the Erzgebirge.
