The main rock units in Gabal Balamhindit area are represented by ophiolites, island arc-related rocks and post-orogenic younger granites. The ophiolitic rocks are represented by massive serpentinites and metagabbros. The serpentinites thrust over island-arc assemblage and are intruded by younger granites. They manifest as vast continuous masses, forming prominent elongated ridges with steep slopes, covering an area of about 35 km2. Along shear zones and fault planes, serpentinites have experienced extensive metasomatism and alteration with the development of magnesite, listvenite and talc-carbonates.
