Ford et al. (1993) note that "fluorite approaching the character of Blue John has been found at Clay Cross Mine, Milltown, Ashover", but do do not provide a grid reference for this mine. The name also does not seem to appear in other references on Peak District mining.
Clay Cross is the name of a company that owned several quarries and mines at Ashover, Fallgate and Milltown. In 1925, the Ashover Light Railway came into operation, mainly to carry minerals from the company’s properties to Clay Cross in northeast Derbyshire. It is probable therefore, that "Clay Cross Mine" refers to one of the company's mines rather than a mine specifically named as such.
